meet gold, trainer/ex-champion of johto and self-proclaimed king of the world. he's your standard, cocky ego-the-size-of-an-inflated-balloon brat that hasn't quite grown up yet. however, as immature as he is, gold isn't quite as naive as he seems to be - he's very serious about battling and the importance of righteous human ethics, seeking to emulate the type of leader he thinks people would want to live under.

ideology-wise, he chose boure after first-handedly seeing how little the indigo league did to help its people, instead just sitting back and letting rookie trainers - children, essentially - do the work for them. he spoke up against it and was ignored, which is where the resentment for the league itself comes in - as an usurper of one of the first boure uprisings, he holds a personal vendetta against the elite four and champions regardless of region, although he hasn't come into contact with any outside of johto just yet.

friends wise, he's sarcastic and cocky and immature, which might be a turnoff, but gold genuinely cares about people because in his mind, that's the kind of thing a true leader considers above all things. he boasts about his strengths and numerous wins, but if someone happens to be stronger than he is, admits his weaknesses and gives respect where due. on the outside, he's very gung-ho about the boure cause, but really operates based a set of personal morales that dictate his judgement based on the person rather than affiliation, the only exception being elite four members + champions. he's had no exposure to ex-champions at the moment.

as a brat, gold's bound to have his fair share of enemies, but he doesn't go out of his way to make them unless it's an elite four/champion, basically 'lackeys of the league', as he likes to call them. affiliation doesn't really matter to him much at all, and outside of battle, he believes that they're defined as people, not factions. there's also an air of arrogance about him that can be interpreted from the title he gives himself, no matter how how 'good' of a king he deems himself to be.

otherwise, he's currently a general that takes his job very seriously, pushing troops to their limits as he would himself. i'd like him to possibly meet any other generals out there, maybe discuss war-plans and what not since he holds an avid, rapidly increasing interest in them. gold goes by and answers to 'harberlein' from anyone other than his close friends/people that already knew his name to begin with, which i'd also like to request for while i'm at it.

ANYWAY i think that tamara and gold might end up pretty good colleagues/acquaintances. she's boure's general in sinnoh, so she knows all about war planning and stuff like that. considering that she miiight be more patient/less cocky than him i think they'll balance each other out well. tamara doesn't like to dilly dally, though, and when she fights she fights to win. they're similar in that sense, and also in their resentment of the league -- she hates them because they failed to stop team galactic in time, which is different from gold's stance with the league in general. hm.

because they're both pretty important people in boure i think they might get thrown together anyhow?? tamara does like to keep to her trump cards to herself, though, and gold seems to be like an easy person to get annoyed at, outside of pokemon battling. idk. tamara might end up kinda stand-offish with him at first simply because he's an ex-champion -- one of the super-powerful people in the regions. i'd think it depends on what conditions they first meet under, really.

CRIMSEN & GOLD

I'm seeing some kind of forced rivalry between two guys who would respect each other in most other circumstances. Kindred spirits on opposite sides of the war kind of thing. Crimsen is no league champion and fights for the unification of Kanto with Zemina being the banner that makes the most sense to him at the time.

He cares little for Kanto Boure but knows thats because they took over his hometown (as opposed to Zemina controlling it which would have been the status quo or Kopec controlling it which was his original preference) In spite of this, he tries not to levy those opinions onto the Boure of other regions. I think patient and tolerant crimsen would get on pretty well with gold even at his most cocky but eventually the pokeballs would have to come out if they met in the field. Who knows how they met or how long they've known each other maybe they're actually cousins?!

I want Crimsen to bro out with gold but they're are on opposite sides of this thing. Batteru how do we make this work?

i do agree with you a lot on the acquaintences part - it's true that tamara's personality traits clash with some of gold's, but her patience would probably let her tolerate gold long enough to see what's beneath the surface, maybe even have the potential to affect his personality in a positive way(if that makes sense). As a plus to that, since they're both generals in boure, being on a good standpoint would be advantageous to the good of the cause as well, but I definitely see the potential for them to genuinely be on good terms rather than united under a similar ideology. gold's resentment towards the league itself is something he tends to keep to himself, so I think that he would really appreciate a strong ally like tamara.

overall i think that tamara would be really healthy for gold's personality and swollen ego, and that being around her could very well tone down his cockiness, given some time. It really depends on how much she's willing to tolerate?

bUT regardless i would love a thread if you have the time for one? the best, most ideal first meeting circumstance would be a professional meeting/in a battle or skirmish of some sort, because gold's personality seems to be the least irritating under those circumstances. if you're up for freeform start generally fitting those guidelines then i'd be willing to start one. <3

yesss i'm looking at crimsen's bio and digging the dynamic between these two. gold would respect crimsen for his strength(and tbh also for the ability to tolerate his presence) and probably seek fights with him whenever he feels up for a fight(i.e. almost all the time). the fact that he was around when red was making his name and all might even mean that gold remembers his name? i mean, he fought red on the top of mt. silver so the idea that someone's similar to strength with red would be v v fascinating to him.

regardless of what ideology they follow, gold only holds a deep, ingrained vendetta against the elite four/champion of all regions, and as you mentioned, crimsen is none of those things. so as long as crimsen's not one of those 'attack boure on sight' sort of people then i think they would just be friends outside of battle and nothing more. gold would be ecstatic to have a bro like crimsen off the field but also understands that when/if they happen to meet up in battle, it's all business. it's not going to necessarily mess with his conscious, but he would probably be guarded and attempt to steer clear of boure/zemina topics when the two of them hang out/drink/whatever else they do, fight probs.

all in all i see mutual respect for sure, and slow, fragile friendship that strengthens with time, similar to building up trust. also lots of fighting. what do you think?

mmmm yesss i can see them both balancing each other out somewhat. gold with his morality because arceus knows tamara's well on her way to losing hers completely with her fixation on galactic, etc. otherwise, yeah, she's willing to tolerate a lot. it'll take something just shy of gold seriously injuring her pokemon/killing innocents/etc to really piss her off. she miiight get snappy a few pegs before that, but other than that, she and gold should be good??

personally i think the two of them should meet under battle conditions, but i'm not quite sure where you want said meeting in the timeline? say, they've only met recently (aka these days two years into the war, which is.... rather unlikely actually) or if you wanna do it as a flashback/liquid time thread.

omg yeah i could definitely understand that, but dw it won't ever happen. gold values his pokemon so he does regard their safety as a pretty high priority. and morality-wise, he wouldn't shove his beliefs on her, necessarily, but being around him might remind her of retaining some of her own??

regardless yeah i like the idea of meeting in battle! and i actually had the idea of a first meeting scenario as maybe when they were both 'newly appointed' generals, without knowledge of what to really do just yet. i was thinking that one of the two regions(sinnoh/johto) had a fight that overwhelmed one of them and the other happened to be in the band of reinforcements, that sort of thing. a flashback thread of that would be cool, but do you have any different thoughts/scenarios?

These two are gonna be fun as heck to thread.

I know their first meeting is probably going to be pretty embarrassing, especially because she has no idea the "ghost" she's yelling about and arguing with is actually the hero of Johto. She's going to be kicking herself so much for making an idiot of herself in front of Gold of all people, and to save face would probably regress into full tsundere mode. Doubly so when she realizes how stubborn and cocky he is firsthand.

I think they'll definitely get into some sass wars of epic proportions too. Too much sarcasm and cutting remarks. World is not ready for it.

I made us a thread set during year one, LeafGreen and FireRed, but in Johto (nine years ago according to our timeline). I'd like to explore a small over lap in their past and also be your opposition for your Fuchsia city mission. The two starkly different scenarios should be fun to do simultaneously and should go a long way in carving out the tone of their bond for a while.

Oh man, I can't wait to thread these two! Lyra's hit a major rough patch in her life, but she's still doing her best to keep it from her friends, so I'd love to see some interactions between the two of them that can highlight a bit of that inner turmoil (not that I like tormenting my characters or anything). She'd love to charge off with Gold and change the world, he's always been a lot of fun and hella inspiring (and, well, he's Gold) but she can't and that hurts, especially when she can't even tell him why because she doesn't want him to worry about her. He's got enough on his mind with the war, after all.
