she doesn't start out as much. simple little crystal from simple little new bark town. she's had her moments, of course -- she's been known as "that girl who could kick pokeballs" and "crystal the catcher," from when she'd worked for professor elm -- but other than that, well.
gold and silver have always been many, many steps ahead of her, in that, even with her own bouts of fame with suicune and arceus and the many, many things that they have gotten into over the years.
(she doesn't mind. she tells herself she doesn't mind, and she believes it, sometimes. but then the times that she's failed comes back to haunt her and ariana laughs in her ears and she sees gold and silver and even lyra's backs to her, walking away and leaving her behind.)
(she sits on the roof on those nights and wonders what it would feel like to simply disappear into the wind, never to return.)
duty has been a large part in her life. duty to her pokemon, to her friends, to the world that they live in. that duty might not have scattered her name across the regions, nor give her the keys to the pokemon league, but she's fine with that.
the land tears itself apart and the oceans rage and it seems like the sky is breaking. but amid it all, crystal stands apart and, in the background, helps her friends save the world.
she's constantly bested by those around her. it's high time she's stopped caring.
