▶ BASIC INFORMATION.
Once upon a time, there was a poor man who had nothing to his name. He was a simple man who only knew the routine of day in and day out. Tired of the mundane cycle, he set off to find out what would make him the happiest with his life.
On his journey to find a purpose he meets a happy young man who wore nice clothes and ate fancy meals. Curious, he asked the man, "What makes you, the happiest person I ever met, so happy?"
"Money and power," he answers. "I am a strong man with wealth and influence. Pokemon fear me. People respect me. I will teach you and then you too will know this happiness."
And so he teaches the poor man, showing him how to grow his own wealth and makes people respect him. Now, the poor man is no longer poor. Instead he eats lavish meals and flaunts his incredible wealth. He continues to travel and people admire him with awe struck envy. For a time, the man enjoys it.
Now that he is rich, nothing has any value. Anything he wants, he has. The novelty of luxuries that were once sparse no longer bring him any joy. Those that admire him treat him like a king, following him wherever he may go. They speak when spoken to and bow at his command. No one dares upset him as long as he is rich - except one old man.
"Why do you not listen to me?" He asks the old man. "I am a very rich and very powerful man. If you listen to me I can show you just how happy money can make you."
"I do not need money or power," answers the old man. "For I have knowledge. I know things that money cannot buy. Learning about things no one else knows makes me happy. I will teach you the value of knowledge and you too will know this happiness."
And so the old man teaches him, showing him how to use logic and reason. Now the rich man is a smart man. He reads stories and books about history, numbers, reasoning, and even pokemon. He continues to travel and people admire him with awe struck envy. For a time, the man enjoys it.
Now that he is smart, there is nothing left to learn. Anything he wants to know, he knows. No one can understand things at the same level as him. Because of this he becomes lonely, isolated by his own intellect. He understands why he is sad and the inevitable outcome of his endeavors. There is no such thing as happiness. He explains to everyone why this must be true. Since he is a smart man everyone believes him - except one simple man.
"Why do you not listen to me?" He asks the simple man. "I am a very rich, very powerful, and very smart man. I have tried to find happiness and know every way to make a person happy. No one can be truly happy."
"I do not need to be rich or powerful or smart to be happy," answers the simple man. "For I am loved. If no one can be truly happy then I am not one. I have my whole family and they make me happy. I will teach you the love of a family and you too will know this happiness."
And so the simple man teaches him, showing him the tenderness of a family and all the love that comes with it. For the first time in a long time the smart man is awe struck with envy. He too wishes to experience the love of a wife and children. So the simple man helps him find a nice girl. The smart man immediately falls in love with the nice girl and asks her to marry him. She says yes.
On his wedding day the young man, old man, and single man show up to pay their respects.
"Haha! You are no longer just a smart man," laughs the simple man. "Now you are a family man too!"
The rich, smart, family man laughs too, thanking them before asking for any last advice.
"Do not forget what I have taught you," says the young man. "You will need to be rich and powerful to provide for your new family."
"Do not forget what I have taught you," says the old man. "You will need to be smart to solve problems for your new family."
"Do not forget what I have taught you," says the simple man. "Being rich and powerful and smart may make you happy for some time but a family will make you happy forever."
