lyra is something of a go getter. a seemingly endless source of energy and cheer make her incredibly fun to be around, and often lead to those around her getting swept up in her wake (seriously, she makes terrible ideas sound really, really, really fun). bold in her statements and sentiments, lyra prefers plain things and language to "beating around the bush." lyra is also said to be rather...erm...liberal in her views on certain aspects of life. in short, lyra doesn't understand why people get so bent out of shape about sex - they don't want to admit that they think about it, they don't want to talk about it, and they definitely don't want her talking about it. lyra just doesn't get it (it's just part of nature running it's course, after all). though, given the fact that she grew up in a household, where pokemon breeding was the name of the game, that isn't terribly surprising. mind you, she doesn't have to tease her friends about how uptight they are about the whole thing, but they make the best faces whenever she mentions it, so...
light-hearted teasing aside, lyra loveloveloveloveloves her friends and is unfailingly loyal to them. be they human or pokemon, she cares about them deeply and tends to go out of her way to aid them in whatever way that she can, often at her own expense.
not everything is sunshine and rainbows though. lyra happens to have one hell of a stubborn streak, and often has trouble admitting that she's wrong, even long after the fact. the way she reacts is sometimes reminiscent of a petulant child. combine that with the whole jumping to conclusions thing, and it's quite the potent combo. it's one of the many ways in which she still has some growing to do. she also has a nasty habit of keeping important things to herself, of bottling up her stress and negative emotions until she buckles under the weight of them. but, hey, everyone's got their flaws and foibles, right?

▶ HISTORY:
despite what people might think, she's not a little girl anymore, and life now isn't half as simple as it was back then. back then she'd been young, and naive, and certain that she could take on any challenge. she'd grown up alongside gold, and believed that friendship was something that could withstand anything (alright, so that part hasn't changed all that much, even if they don't see each other half so often these days), but nowshe knows that nobody is invincible. it was easy enough to think that they were when they were kids - venturing out to collect badges, infiltrating and taking down team rocket (strangely enough, she kinda misses some of those guys), becoming champion (even if it was too much responsibility by half). those things had been not only reachable but important once, she hadn't been able to see past them, but once they'd been done, there was nothing left but reality, dull, and harsh, and unyielding.
lyra traveled for a while, looking for something that would satisfy her, something new, something challenging, and then her grandmother died. she was out in vermillion at the time, not quite seriously hitting on the gym leader who was clearly too old for her. a heart attack, the news struck her like a blow, though what it did to her grandfather was far worse.
lyra did her best to be there for him, she returned home, agreed to help around the daycare, started hitting the books (so to speak), she did everything she could, really, all the while bottling up her own pain in the interest of keeping things light, hoping that it might help in some way. it meant that sometimes, she got to see him smile, and that meant the world to her. but it wasn't enough. oh, it worked well enough, she could tell that the loss of her grandmother remained with him (that it always would), but soon he began to laugh again, to go out around town and interact with customers. things went back to normal, or as close to normal as they could be without the hum of a sewing machine, or the smell of freshly baked pies, and soft humming floating in through the window. lyra tended to whistle while she worked, but it wasn't quite the same. in the end, though, the smiles turned to grimaces - pain. she cold tell that he was in pain long before he admitted to it, and by then it was too late.
cancer, that's what the doctors called it. lyra told them that they were wrong. grandpa was too strong for that, to vibrant, but as the days passed she watched him fade, watched the smiles slip from his face, replaced by a potent mixture of frustration and agony, and realized that it wasn't going to pass.
lyra did what she could, ensured that he got the rest he needed, took over the daycare, basically put her life on hold. and so it remains. things have changed, of course, they always do. there's a war on, but she can't leave, can't help (even if she desperately believes in the boure cause), not yet...
she has 'conveniently' forgotten to mention her troubles to her friends, even gold doesn't know the whole of it. grandpa's sick she'd told him one day, but getting better every day. her voice hadn't even cracked when she'd said it. and the best part was that he'd believed her, that he hadn't pushed beyond the initial, cursory offer to help (which, of course, she hadn't accepted, and he'd just written off as her being her: classically independent and stubborn).
