The funeral was painstakingly long.
Gramps, having taken extra time to make sure his only son and daughter in law would have a burial deserving of an Oak called for the service to be extended. 'A father should never have to see his son buried.' So they said, but was the same true for the opposite? As the ceremony continued his grandfather and sister both wrecks in their own regard hadn't noticed Blue was almost annoyingly calm. For a son who had to deal with his father's death at such a young age he was taking the death relatively well. If anything Blue was angry two of the greatest pokemon trainers of all times died in a petty kitchen fire. It was pathetic. At seven Blue understood what was happening, or rather what happened but the realization hadn't really hit yet. He sat silently and dry eyed in his chair fidgety as everyone gave their last words to his parents, only making an occasional sound to comfort his sister beside him.
After what felt like ages the ceremony finally ended and the people petered away to continue with their lives forlorn looks on their faces. The two Oaks would truly be missed in Pallet. Blue's mind had long since wandered to other things, apparently a kid around his age lived right next door to his new home. Blue and his thirteen year old sister, Daisy would be living with Professor Oak at a house very close to the lab. The prospect of living within arms reach of the lab excited the boy and was the best thing that'd happened since the death of his parents.
As he arrived at the new home Blue didn't know exactly what it was that triggered him when he saw the kid, Whether it was fact that at the moment he was with his mother and they both looked so happy. Maybe it was the realization that what they had he'd never have again, It could have just been he simply didn't like the cut of his jib, But one thing was certain upon meeting. Blue did not like Red.
The next three years were relatively peaceful other than the thorn in his side that was Red. Seeing as the two lived next door to each other it was natural they'd ended up hanging out together after all Pallet town didn't have many youths running around, particularly around the lab. Most of Blue's days ended up with him hanging out with Red, and another neighbor who'd lived in Pallet, a girl their age named Green.
Blue needless to say didn't like Red, but he, at the time he may have held some innocent feelings for the third of their trio. These feelings were translated into extremely obnoxious behavior around both of them, and Blue constantly challenging Red to prove himself not only to Green, but to Red and most importantly himself. It served as a constant reminder that he was better than the other boy, that he was an Oak. For some reason or another the two didn't mind having Blue around even with his constant cynicism and negativity, he figured it was because with him they were able to play in the lab more often. Despite Red's oddness Blue always felt something from the boy something very bright, it was this feeling that often triggered the youngest Oak to challenge the other boy. If he was to be asked about it today Blue would probably say it was a premonition of things to come.
At 10 they'd started their journeys. He'd made sure Red chose his pokemon first so he could counter it immediately. He was extremely cautious dealing with his so called 'friend' these days. He'd known that they were both inclined to start their pokemon
journeys around the same time, and Gramps if only for the sport of it all decided to give the three of them their pokemon on the same day. Blue having been around the lab for the better portion of his life had only one goal, to become the champion. With all the glitz the fame and most importantly the glory the position held it was what the prodigal grandson thought to be his calling. And so after schooling Red in their first battle he left the lab glancing at his rival, He said nothing out of the norm but the feeling that had come and gone throughout his youth, that 'premonition' returned left a knot in his stomach, a knot that wouldn't dislodge itself for a very long time.
------------------------------------
20 minutes.
His eyes now focused on the clock as opposed to his rival. He couldn't even call the boy across the stage his 'friend'. All he'd done was pick on the capped kid. He knew he was insecure about a number of things, and at times they did indeed get along, but Blue didn't have the right to call the new champion anything other than Rival. Everything he'd worked for crushed in twenty minutes. An overstatement perhaps? What was worse Blue wasn't angered by his loss, somewhere inside of him he'd expected this to happen. For all his boasting and bragging, for all of his attitude and high mindedness, he knew when it came down to it Red was the better trainer. The only real question being 'why?'
---------------------------------------
Another day another challenger. It's been two years to the day that his prize had been taking from him. He's tried to heal the relationship he and Red had and it worked somewhat. His best friend lives at the peak of Mt. Silver, he didn't care to know the specifics of such an extreme move he figures it had something to do with his home life. Occasionally he'd throw a letter up to the mountain to check in while he casually deals with any opponent who has hopes of facing the solitary champion. Blue's not really happy with his job but he's accepted it, and with that he's found his own peace. When not accepting challengers photography and writing take his interest. In photos a moment lasts forever, same was true for a particular 20 minutes that occurred oh so long ago. Blue's become the protector of his friends. He still makes himself feel bitter about his biggest loss, and it's not uncommon for him to feel like he should have been the champ in Red's place, but the thoughts always drown themselves out. 'It's natural' Blue tells himself as these thoughts come and go.
He recognizes he's at least half an adult now as he hands in his resignation papers. He's accumulated a number of skills to get by in this world with and without pokemon alike. The future holds a number of possibilities: Writer, Researcher, Photographer, Celebrity, Pokemon Trainer. However he's gained another 'Ex' title as well. Formerly just Ex-Champ, now he's also an Ex-gym leader. He can't help but laugh at the thought. He still enjoys training pokemon, but politics have gotten too severe. Red made his allegiance known and Green is still sitting on the fence. Red after his loss dropped the title of champion to a particularly spunky kid they'd both fought a couple of years back. Leaving Blue with no purpose to continue his job as the Viridian City gym leader. He'd continued working the job as a means to further train his pokemon. But the league has changed now, and he no longer sees himself working with it. He allies himself with Kopec if only to make sure his still broken friend doesn't find himself alone and in too much trouble. Even after all these years he thinks of himself as the 'Guardian' though his attitude and nature seem eternally different. This is one title he keeps to himself, and in this undertaking for the first time in his life he isn't seeking the spotlight.
Tl;Dr: You have this kid Blue and his parents are dead, it's honestly whatever. He gets to live with his grandpa and that's pretty dope tbh. So he moves into this new place with his grandpa and sister and meets this wimpy looking chump, and decides on day 1 I don't like this fucker. They still hang out cause they're neighbors or whatever and eventually a girl comes into the mix Blue has a crush on her but that's neither her nor there. Eventually these kids start a pokemon journey and Red becomes the champ only after beating Blue
